Effective Communication Paper Estrella HCS325 November 29, 2010 Mrs. Martin Kattan Effective Communication Paper Teams can effectively share ideas and information by communicating with each other and motivating each other individually. Teams can also effectively communicate with each member by respecting each other’s opinions and ideas as well as being supportive with the team and the team members. Communication within a team can be as ineffective the same as it can be effective because of the different diversities and differences each member may have.
According to (Lombardi & Schermerhorn, 2007, p. 91), “A team is a small group of people with complementary skills, who work together to achieve a shared purpose and hold themselves mutually accountable for its accomplishments”. A team has the same purpose and goals to accomplish that can only be done by communicating with each other and listening to each other as well as following orders and rules.
Respecting team member’s ideas and having a good behavior at all times can be an effective way to manage a team and take on whatever responsibilities come up as a team. Ineffective ways is when team members do not approve of different backgrounds and ideas of others and all team members cannot at all work together. “Managers need to lay goo ground in the areas of expected behavior, task responsibilities, and communication procedures”. (Lombardi & Schemerhorn, 2007, p. 91). Ineffective team communication needs a little help to start a good communication behavior.
Team members should know how to manage their work and how to work together as a team b being able to communicate with each other in order to make decisions for themselves and as a team and they also have to be able to handle conflicts within the team without having it get worse. When teams follow their good dynamics, the team will be effective. In healthcare, teams have to work together to have good outcome and good quality. Depending on the organization the team work can affect the setting if the team members do not relate to one another or if they do not use their skills to help each other during work and team work.
The healthcare team must always have a good support in information, materials needed, arrangements, and a good organization structure. Healthcare organizations are usually intense so the team has to be able to focus their efforts and make themselves work with an intense process to get things done effectively. Communicating within the team at all times can make tasks clear and the effort of the work much easier to handle. The teams do not have to exchange that much information or interact in an intense way when there is a good effective communicating order. Efforts are made to find ways to meet team goals while also satisfying individual needs”. (Lombardi & Schermerhorn, 2007, p. 99). Team work can be very effective is the team actually finds ways to workaround any obstacles that might be present or become present. In the healthcare, teams have to be very effective in communication skills especially for the sake of the patients and the entire organization. The patients because they go to find care for their health and they do want to be respected, cared for, and feel safe. Organization because if people cannot work well together, respect each other the organization will not work.
Effective communication is being able to work with a team no matter what their background is, meaning where they stand in education, skills, knowledge, religion, and ethnicity. A team has to respect each other no matter where they each come from and respect each other’s thoughts and opinions as well as their work. Ineffective communication is not being able to communicate any issues the team members may have and not being able to cooperate as a team. Reference Lombardi, D. M. , & Schermerhorn, J. R. (2007).
